Solus Arts is the collaborative artistic practice of Minneapolis artists Sam King and Jessica Heinrich.

Working across photography, 3D printing, and spatial curation, we explore how light, environment, memory, and perspective shape the way we experience the world around us.

We are drawn to the tension between stillness and movement, permanence and impermanence, the natural and the imposed. Through experimentation with light and form, we transform recognizable places and objects into something less certain—inviting viewers to look again.

Our current photographic practice utilizes backlighting, long exposures, and shifting color to reimagine local concrete structures as ghostly, transient figures surrounded by lines of energy. What appears stationary becomes dynamic. What seems permanent begins to feel temporary.

Our creative process is grounded in openness. Rather than working toward a predetermined result, we embrace experimentation and allow the work to reveal possibilities along the way. Our ancestral memory and Afrocentric and Indigenous perspectives inform how we understand place, history, and our collective relationship to the environments we inhabit.

For us, art is a way of asking viewers to move between past, present, and future—to consider not only what a place has been, but what it is becoming.
